At most companies, IT departments are expected to handle a wide range of responsibilities, working behind the scenes to make sure things not only run smoothly but also safely and securely. At Destination Lighting, things are no different and that is where Max Klim comes in. As Network Security Administrator, Klim's duties are in network, server, and firewall administration and security.

"It is my job to configure, maintain and make sure that our systems are safe and secure from outside threats," says Klim. Because Destination Lighting uses multiple technologies, it is also part of Klim's job description to fully understand the intricacies of each system.

Klim has been at Destination Lighting for 3 years and has impressive professional experience in information technology. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA). Knowledgeable in open source platforms, Klim also holds accreditation in Red Hat Linux. Of his job, Klim says he enjoys the people he works with and values the opportunity to constantly learn new things. Though Klim cannot go into detail about upcoming plans for the New Year, he expects to stay busy working on a "major IT project" in 2008.

Currently, Klim is finishing up a degree at Central Washington University. When he isn't working or studying, Klim is hanging out with his girlfriend, Emily, and his Manchester terrier, Doby. His schedule remains mostly full, but Klim manages to make an exception for one hobby: skiing. "With school, girlfriend, friends and dog—that's about all I have time for," says Klim.
